Homework!

Part 1: Important Item

Part 2: My favourite way to spend the day

  • How it affects your everyday world?

  • How often do you get the chance to spend a day this way?

My favourite way to spend the day is to spend it down the beach swimming in the sea. I also love to jump into the sea from a high point when it's a really hot day. I used to work as a chef in the channel islands and after a day in the sweltering kitchen there was nothing better than running to the harbour and jumping off the harbour wall into the cold sea. This could no doubt be followed by an ice cream, maybe a BBQ later in the day with close friends or family.

This activity, along with swimming and just relaxing in the sun on the beach, gives an inner calm and contentment to life and allows reflection on the business of everyday life and routine. Sadly due to the climate this is only really possible in the summer and when it can be fitted round a busy schedule, in some quiet time at the weekend. Mental note - find more time to do things for enjoyment rather than work!

Personal choice:

1. Write about Begbie and his relationship with his dad. How did he end up where he was? This was obviously such an influence to be the name of the film. Is that where his rage and inner sadness came from? Did he come to peace with it in the end? Develop this story. Done on separate post.

2. Reflect on and try to recall the text of "The day of the dearly departed". The thoughts and feelings it brought up. Try and rewrite what you can remember and then maybe try and write what you would say today. If not too epic, write a new poem. Done on separate post.
